The competition for new talent is fierce, and it's critical to articulate to young people specifically why industry is the place to be for innovation and cutting-edge technologies. Only 14% of American Gen Z workers would consider a career in industrial work, yet the need for skilled, tech-savvy industrial workers is greater than ever. To tackle the industrial recruitment crisis, companies must lead the way and show that modern manufacturing can offer both the future skills and meaningful work to attract the hearts and minds of the digital generation. Ahead of the World Economic Forum in Davos later this month, Barbara Frei, SVP Industrial Automation at Schneider Electric, wrote in a blog post for #WEF25: "In the era where the gaming industry, social media, TikTok and internet influencers are all competing for the limited attention of Gen Z, we need to find ways to engage people differently."
